I respect Tom Izzo, but his hatred of UM comes from the wrong place.

Sure, he should hate UM, they are each others biggest rivals in basketball, and big rivals in football.

But for Wetzel to say Izzo hates UM, because he lost recruits in the 80's and 90's to UM, is just plain wrong.

Izzo built his program upon the NCAA sanctions that UM received during the Chris Webber/Ed Martin scandal. Had Webber committed to MSU, this whole story would have unfolded differently.

And I think a lot of outsiders miss this key point. Webber at one point was close to committing to MSU, and he was even closer to committing to Minnesota! Webber's relationship was established with Ed Martin long before he went to college. Ed Martin would have paid Webber, no matter which school he went to.

Some people are so beyond dumb that's it not even worth my time. Ed Martin didn't pay Webber to go to U of M. Nor did he pay anyone in the 80's(Nor did anyone else). As BHB stated, Webber would have gotten money from Martin no matter where he went. There was nothing illegal about how Webber got to U of M or anyone before him. Izzo is just butthurt that U of M was legitimately better and wants to attribute it to cheating. Which is just beyond stupid, but go figure when it's coming from a guy who Spartan fans love.

Especially when you consider how Izzo has done the exact same thing to Purdue Izzo can rightly be accused of many things, but I don't think he's a hypocrite.

Wetzel is no stranger to hack pieces, so I'll take his "rationale" with a grain of salt.

MSU's program hasn't always been as squeaky clean as portrayed. Just sayin'.

A few quick thoughts:

1) I don't know enough about the situation, but it is concerning to me that the only people I hear defend Michigan regarding this are Michigan fans
2) I'd really hope all these years later that Izzo doesn't care much about this whole thing with the exception of an extra boost of motivation at 3AM before a big game
3) As a MSU basketball fan who has much less emotional attachment to the program than he used to, I think I can say that Purdue fans stretching the truth to prove a point (especially in the scenario where a Dawson fist pump was interpreted as punching a Purdue player...and a fight with teammate Payne making MSU a thug program) is gross. I have enough reason to dislike Payne already, no need to force more in there.
4) Noones program is squeaky clean, whether by design (95% of the time Im guessing) or accident.

Nobody outside of East Lansing believes it was "just a fist pump", so perhaps your emotional attachment is stronger than you want to admit.

Purdue fans have done a boatload of sore-loser whining about how Dawson Jilted them for MSU, but Dawson has not helped things--hard to deny that he's been an unmitigated thug ever since---witness his classless mouthing off to Painter last season, his punch to Travis Carroll (however benign you may think it was), and his rumble with Payne earlier this season.

Dawson's talent and potential is undeniable, but he has a LOT of growing up to do--in retrospect, it's easy to see why he'd prefer playing for a coach who isn't too concerned about establishing boundaries for him--Painter certainly wouldn't have permitted this kind of crap without disciplining him.

Look, I've watched 3 MSU basketball games all year. UConn, Michigan, and another I can't remember. I don't care.

If you think teammates fighting is thuggish and unheard of, you are living in an extremely white, "violence is bad 100% of the time" state of mind.

I'm open to the idea that Dawson could have punched Carroll, but I've seen absolutely nothing to show me that happened.

Your team is filled with players like Dawson, "my team" is filled with players like Dawson. And probably alot worse. Definitely alot worse. We all just want to see these teams win, lets stop dressing it up. It's easy to say what you would do in a situation that doesnt effect you.

Drew Sharp would kick every player off of a team that has ever commited the most minor crime. Ran Paul would have fired Hillary Clinton because of Benghazi.

Like I said, this is why me and sports have had a falling out.

not here to argue or debate but since you called it out, what's up? Any difference from anything else going on? Since it appears some people have the "inside scoop" to college athletics on BTF, what do you know? I'd just like to know.
If I posted UofM's program hasn't always been as squeaky clean as portrayed under Beilein...would I be wrong? Just askin
