The money with sports advertising is HUGE. One of the few things people watch live and don't DVR and skip commercials.
I do that all the time. Love it. Start watching CFB about 45 minutes late...skip commercials, skip halftime bullshit...you are live by the 4th. Same with Hoops.

sure some may do what you do, but most people watch live, unless other reasons prevent them from doing so (work)

Neither of these programs would win the MAC in either football or basketball this year or last year, so why are they being added?

Rutgers may win the BE football title this year if they beat Lville at home but they've already lost to Kent State at home by 12. Maryland lost to Temple this year. 2 more easy wins for Northwestern

More programs do not need to be added until the teams that are in the conference now that are underperforming have improved. I know coming from an NU fan this sounds harsh but the conference may only have 5 bowl eligible teams this year if Indiana beats Purdue and Minnesota beat MSU. 5 out of 12 bowl eligible when it only takes 6 wins to be bowl eligible. Rutgers lost to Kent State and Maryland lost to Temple this year.

Thats not entirely true or fair to look at it that way. Just because tOSU and PSU aren't allowed to play in a bowl doesn't mean they aren't bowl-quality teams... We have 7 teams that are bowl-eligible when counting those teams, with the possibility of 9 if MSU and Purdue win... 10 of 14 when counting RU and MD.

By comparison the SEC only has 8 of 14 teams that bowl eligible teams, with an opportunity for 10.... But they won't get there. Mizzou and Ole Miss both need to win on the road(neither will), @aTm and @MissState respectively.

MD & Rutgers are not now and will not be Big 10 members until 2014, they don't count. OSU & PSU are not bowl eligible despite their records. So of the 10 Big 10 teams not on probation, as many as 7 but as few as 5 may be bowl eligible after this weekends game. 7 out of 10 is good but 3 of those team are qualifying by the skin of their team with 6-6 records.

I've been trying to work something out for the new schedules/divisions. What do you guys think?

I really think the B10 needs to go back to their scheduling that they used before we joined where every team has a few protected-rivalry games, and rotats everyone else.... Forget divisions.

In this setup each team plays three permanent rivals, as well as the other teams on a bi-annual basis.... I tried to set it up with 4 permanent rivals, but found that with 3 it worked out into a 8 game schedule perfectly. Which makes things easy, it also allows teams to continue to schedule OCC games as they normally would.

Here is how permanent rivals might look, obviously there are flaws, but that's why Im not in charge of B10-scheduling. So for the sake of the message board, deal with it.

Nebraska: Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa
Michigan: Ohio State, Michigan State, Minnesota
Ohio State: Michigan, Illinois, Purdue
Penn State: Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland
Wisconsin: Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota
Michigan State: Michigan, Northwestern, Indiana
Iowa: Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota
Northwestern: Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana
Rutgers: Penn State, Maryland, Purdue
Maryland: Penn State, Rutgers, Illinois
Illinois: Ohio State, Northwestern, Maryland
Minnesota: Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa
Purdue: Ohio State, Indiana, Rutgers
Indiana: Michigan State, Purdue, Northwestern

Nebraska's rotated games would look something like this:
Schedule A: tOSU, MSU, Purdue, MD, Minn
Schedule B: UM, RU, NW, Ill, Indiana

This system allows everybody to play everybody else at least twice in a four year period.... The B10 title game can simply be played between the best two records of the season.

What do you guys think of something like that? Is it better than having two divisions, and only playing teams from the opposite division at home once every 12 seasons?

Rutgers got their [hit handed to them against Pitt today.

Maryland seems to be riding the good news from this week in their game today, they lead North Carolina 35-28 early in the 3rd quarter.
