Methamphetamine: a drug that is spreading like wildfire across Big Ten country, a drug that addicts countless individuals, destroying their minds, bodies and souls, and, hopefully, a drug that will hopefully be causing a little less destruction in Illinois next year thanks to an awareness-raising new uniform by Nike.

"We discovered two things during our research about Illinois," said Nike head designer Christopher Polyblend. "First: central and southern Illinois is absolutely crawling with meth labs, and second: meth manufacturers tend to be very lax about safety."

"Seriously, it's as if they have no respect for the chemistry at all."

The new uniforms will demonstrate good lab safety habits to the thousands of meth producers, or "cooks", inevitably in the viewing audience during an Illinois game, said Polyblend. "The rubber gloves, the ventilation mask, the Haz-Mat suit: all of these things are necessary to protect from chemical burns, incapacitation and even death. It's a sad testament to the decline of science education in this country that more crank producers don't enforce proper safety protocols, but we hope to do our bit to change things for the better."

Weis still eating good...on ND's tab, is this a great country or what!

Basicly get fired, become millions richer, his severance (USA TODAY 5/17/12):

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/colle...ons/55003198/1

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly earned more money from the university in 2010 than anyone else associated with the Fighting Irish athletics program - but his predecessor came pretty close.

By Phelan M. Ebenhack, AP

Kelly earned a little more than $2.4 million, according to the federal tax return the university filed last week - the first look at his compensation since Notre Dame hired him away from Cincinnati.

But the coach he replaced, Charlie Weis, was paid nearly $2.1 million in 2010 as part of Notre Dame's ongoing fulfillment of the contract buyout deal it reached when it fired Weis after the 2009 season. The tax document says: "Termination payment of $2,054,744 was made during the reporting period to Charles J. Weis under a separation agreement that includes additional annual payments through December, 2015."

INTERACTIVE: USA TODAY's college football salary database

According to the document, Weis also received $469,727 in 2010 from Play by Play Sports (now know as Notre Dame Sports Properties, which university spokesman Dennis Brown said is a separate unit that is the marketing and corporate sponsorship entity for Notre Dame athletics).

Notre Dame provided the document in response to a request from USA Today Sports.

On the return Notre Dame filed last year, it reported giving a $6.6 million termination payment to Weis in 2009. (It also reported a $650,000 payment in 2009 to Weis' predecessor, Tyrone Willingham, under a separation agreement that included annual payments through December 2009.)

The initial termination payment and the $2 million sum in 2010 means there is documentation for Weis to have received approximately $8.7 million since he left the school. That figure could rise to close to $19 million once the school reports its payments through the end of his contract in 2015.

Since leaving Notre Dame, Weis has kept working as a high-profile and highly paid coach. He was the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator in 2010, the University of Florida's offensive coordinator in 2011 and in December 2011 was hired as the University of Kansas' head coach.

His contract with Florida was scheduled to pay him $875,000 for the 2011 season. Kansas gave him a five-year deal that is scheduled to pay him $2.5 million for the 2012 season.

Meanwhile, Weis has held three jobs since leaving the school. He spent one year as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator in 2010 and one season at Florida in the same position before being hired as head coach of Kansas.

Kelly's pay from Notre Dame was not listed in USA TODAY's 2011 football coaches' compensation survey because he did not appear on the tax return that the university filed in May 2011. That return included compensation information for the 2009 calendar year.

In 2010, Kelly earned $2,424,301, according to the document, which listed:

--$617,846 in base compensation.

--$1,762, 334 in other reportable compensation.

--$24,500 in retirement and other deferred compensation.

--$19,622 in non-taxable benefits.

The document notes that "a significant part of the amount" listed as other reportable compensation "represents a one-time payment to Coach Kelly." This likely was a signing incentive or money paid to him so he could pay his $1 million contract buyout to Cincinnati, or some combination of those.

The document also says that Kelly "is permitted to receive compensation from external sources with prior written approval from the University" and that any such payments are not reported on the return.........CONTINUED.......

The NCAA overhaul of its body of rules may call for the suspension of a head coach whose assistants commit violations, as well as a fine for a university up to five percent of its annual athletic budget, according to proposals discussed Monday at the Atlantic Coast Conference spring meetings.

An NCAA special committee, led by Clemson president James F. Barker, is attempting to streamline rules enforcement to provide "stronger, more predictable penalties" and greater accountability for university officials, from presidents to athletic directors to head coaches. The committee issued an interim report last month and is circulating some proposals among the membership for discussion.

The proposed changes include multiple levels of violations, rather than just the "major" and "secondary" levels now in force. This would allow the NCAA to be more nimble in how it adjudicates lesser violations.

The Big Ten led the nation in men’s basketball attendance for the 36th consecutive season according to figures recently released by the NCAA. The Big Ten led all conferences with an average attendance of 12,868, which is more than 1,300 higher than the next-closest conference.

During the 2011-12 regular season, the Big Ten welcomed 2,856,785 fans over 222 games, which marks the conference’s all-time total attendance record and is the 20th straight year the conference eclipsed the two-million mark.

Six conference schools ranked in the top 25 in average attendance, while no other conference had more than four top-25 programs. Wisconsin led the Big Ten and ranked fifth nationally with an average of 17,181 fans per game. Ohio State (16,511) and Indiana (16,462) ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, followed by No. 14 Illinois (14,986), No. 15 Michigan State (14,797) and No. 21 Purdue (13,324). The Buckeyes and Hoosiers also posted two of the largest increases from the previous season.
Maroon and gold are out and the purple reign has begun: the University of Minnesota announced today that they would be undertaking a complete redesign of their uniforms. The new look will center around the style and music of Minneapolis native Prince, and will amount to a total reimagining of the Golden Gopher brand.

"Minnesota had a good run with Goldy Gopher," said Nike head designer Christopher Polyblend, "but let's face it, the 1934-36 dynasty was a long time ago. I mean, the team's last bowl win was in 2004. We at Nike figured: Let's go crazy, let's get nuts, let's look for the purple banana-- why not?"

The new uniforms feature Prince's trademark purple jacket from the album and film Purple Rain, knee-high leather platform cleats, and a lace shirt open to the navel. The design omits several traditional safety features, such as padding for the sternum and clavicle, but Polyblend believes the sacrifices are necessary in order to capture the essence of Minnesota culture.

"When one thinks of Minnesota, what comes to mind? For most people, the answer is obvious: raw, unbridled sexuality." said Polyblend. "Dance, music, sex, romance -- all of that. Just dirty, filthy, near-pornographic stuff. The kind of borderline obscene material found in so much of Prince's music."

Terrelle Pryor is trying to put his past behind him and become a successful NFL quarterback. But he's not finished talking about what happened at Ohio State.

Pryor, now with the Oakland Raiders, received a five-game suspension in his final season with the Buckeyes for selling memorabilia. Nearly a full year later, Pryor, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, opened up about the decisions he made and the reasons why he made them.

"It was humbling," Pryor told Sports Illustrated. "A mistake I made when I was a freshman by selling my pants for $3,000 just took away everything from me. I was just driven into the ground. I was the worst person in the world. My face popped up on the screen, and it seemed like I was the only one who did anything. I was the only one who was getting attacked.

"At that point last year, I'm 21 and it just felt like everything was against me, like I can't do anything right. I did something to help somebody else out, and I end up getting into trouble. I understand. I shouldn't have sold the stuff and taken $3,000. But I was kind of in a place where I didn't understand why this is happening to me -- especially for the reason that I did it."

The scene: a neon-lit roadhouse on the outskirts of a small Wisconsin town. It's a warm night in late September and the jukebox is playing Nazareth as the Badgers crush some non-conference foe on the big screen. A man strides in wearing camouflage pants, a Leinenkugel hat and the most glorious screen-printed nature t-shirt known to man, causing the men to choke on their beer in awe and the women to drop their mozzarella sticks out of sheer animal lust. It is this common Wisconsin tableau that Nike attempted to capture in their new Pro Combat design for the team.

"We wanted the uniform to be a celebration of Wisconsin culture, and so naturally we made the centerpiece of the design a totally boss screen-printed t-shirt," said Nike head designer Christopher Polyblend. "Luckily we found a local artist who really managed to incorporate all the key elements that go into a great nature t-shirt: a majestic animal, trees, a few wispy clouds, the moon -- all that shit."

Polyblend elaborated on the importance of the screen-printed nature shirt in Badger culture: "As I understand it, this type of shirt is a very special ceremonial garment for a Wisconsinite. They wear it to hunt and fish, they wear it on their wedding day, and of course they wear it when they are inevitably felled in a hunting, fishing or snowmobiling accident."
The 1990s: an era universally recognized as the apex of American culture, an era when Nirvana broke down the doors of the music industry, when CompuServe and Prodigy brought the miracle of internet message boards into homes everywhere and when Pepsi was, for a brief, miraculous time, clear. Most importantly, it was an era when Nebraska football reigned supreme. To celebrate the dominance of the Cornhuskers in that illustrious decade, Nike is introducing ProCombat uniforms that recall the days when Nebraska was really good at football.

"Nebraska fans are largely stuck in a state of permanent nostalgia for the days when Tom Osborne roamed the sideline, so I thought it was appropriate to incorporate several classic '90s element in the design," said Nike head designer Christopher Polyblend. "It was a bit tricky from a logistical standpoint -- we had to get permission from several corporations before we could go ahead: Vuarnet, Zubaz, Doc Martens, HyperColor and, of course, Mr. Adam Duritz -- but I think the final effect was worth it."

"We think we really captured an era when Nebraska was great at football, and when America apparently didn't care so much about how it looked."
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Penn State football assistant whose report of Jerry Sandusky allegedly attacking a child in the showers led to Joe Paterno's firing said in a court filing Tuesday that he is suing the school.

The "writ of summons" filed by Mike McQueary's lawyer described it as a whistle-blower case, but the brief document was not accompanied by a full complaint that would lay out the allegations.

The filing was first reported by the Centre Daily Times on its website.

McQueary's attorney, Elliott Strokoff of Harrisburg, did not respond to a phone message at his office late Tuesday. McQueary's father, John McQueary, declined to comment on his behalf.

Mike McQueary, then a graduate assistant, has said he complained to Paterno of seeing the boy in a locker room shower naked with Sandusky.

He testified in December that he believed Sandusky was molesting the boy and "having some type of sexual intercourse with him," but added he was not "100 percent" certain they were having intercourse because of his vantage point.

Penn State's trustees have said they fired Paterno as coach partly because of his response to the incident. Paterno reported the matter to administrators Gary Schultz and Tim Curley, which trustees have called "his minimum legal duty" and "a failure of leadership." Paterno was fired as coach in November and died in January of lung cancer.

McQueary, who was a receivers coach, was placed on paid administrative leave by the school after the three men were arrested in November. All three have pleaded not guilty.

 OFFENSE
Offensive coordinator: Al Borges, Michigan. What more can be said about Borges? The guy has an unmatched resume that includes stops as coordinator at Indiana, Auburn, UCLA, Oregon, Cal and Boise State, among others. Borges has shown an ability to adapt his West Coast attack at Michigan to conform to the skills of quarterback Denard Robinson. Smart man. The result, an 11-2 season in 2011, as the Wolverines also produced two 1,000-yard rushers for the first time since 1975. Why isn’t this guy a head coach?
Others: Matt Canada, Wisconsin; Greg Davis, Iowa; Tom Herman, Ohio State; Matt Limegrover, Minnesota; Bill O’Brien, Penn State

Quarterbacks coach: Greg Davis, Iowa. He pushed the buttons on a Texas attack that won the national title in 2005. And the Longhorns may have won another in 2008 if Colt McCoy had not gotten hurt early in the title game. Regardless, Davis has developed a reputation for developing quarterbacks, from the read-option variety (Vince Young) to the drop-back pro style (Chris Simms). Davis knows signal-callers.
Others: Tom Herman, Ohio State; Mick McCall, Northwestern; Gary Nord, Purdue

Offensive line: Mike Markuson, Wisconsin. The ultra-intense Markuson brings a wealth of experience to Madison, having built some strong lines while working for Houston Nutt at Ole Miss and Arkansas, among other stops. Markuson’s fronts always are known for being physical and tough, paving the way for some strong rushing attacks over the years . In his decade at Arkansas, no other Southeastern Conference team was more effective at running the ball than the Hogs. And at Ole Miss, he groomed Michael “Blind Side” Oher. Enough said.
Others: Barney Cotton, Nebraska; Mac McWhorter, Penn State; Mark Staten, Michigan State; Ed Warinner, Ohio State

Running backs: Fred Jackson, Michigan. He is one of the nation’s longest tenured coaches at one school, as he has been at Michigan since 1992 when he joined Gary Moeller’s staff. Among his star pupils in Ann Arbor have been Tyrone Wheatley, Chris Perry, Anthony Thomas, Mike Hart and Tim Biakabutuka. And Jackson’s current star, Fitz Toussaint is coming off a 1,000-yard season and is primed for more big things in the fall.
Others: Thomas Hammock, Wisconsin; Brad Salem, Michigan State

Receivers: Erik Campbell, Iowa. He has groomed receivers at Iowa since 2010, developing some of the most prolific wideouts in school annals in Marvin McNutt and Derrell Johnson-Koulianos. Campbell began coaching receivers at Michigan in 1995 before coming to the Hawkeyes in 2008. With the Wolverines, Campbell coached the likes of Mercury Hayes, Ronald Bellamy, Adrian Arrington, Steve Breaston, Mario Manningham as well as three All-Americans: David Terrell, Marquise Walker and Braylon Edwards.
Others: Billy Gonzales, Illinois; Stan Hixon, Penn State; Kevin Johns, Indiana

Tight ends: Eric Johnson, Iowa. He coached tight ends from 2003-07; worked with linebackers for two years before returning to tight ends in 2010. Some of the tight ends Johnson has worked with include Scott Chandler and Tony Jackson, while C.J. Fiedorowicz looks primed to be one of the Big Ten’s top tight ends in 2012.
Others: Seth Littrell, Indiana.

DEFENSE
Defensive coordinator: Greg Mattison, Michigan. The numbers speak for themselves. After spending three years in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, Mattison returned to Michigan. And his impact was deep and immediate. His unit ranked second in the Big Ten and sixth in nation in scoring defense (17.4 ppg). Remarkable numbers when you consider where the defense was before he arrived. Mattison has coached 18 NFL players and had seven of his protégés taken in the first three rounds of the draft and two first-round selections.
Others: Pat Narduzzi, Michigan State; Ted Roof, Penn State; Everett Withers, Ohio State.

Defensive line: Larry Johnson, Penn State. There is a reason why Bill O’Brien retained him from Joe Paterno’s staff. Johnson is one of the best in the business who at one time rejected a chance to be assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at Illinois Over the past 15 years, he has built some of the top lines in the nation. And he also has recruited and developed some great players, including the likes of Courtney Brown, Jared Odrick, Jimmy Kennedy, Tamba Hali, Anthony Adams and most recently Devon Still. Johnson’s next great one is Jordan Hill.
Others: Ted Gill, Michigan State; Keith Gilmore, Illinois; Rick Kaczenski, Nebraska; Reese Morgan, Iowa; Charlie Partridge, Wisconsin.

Linebackers: Luke Fickell. He doubles as the defensive coordinator after serving as interim head coach last season under trying circumstances. But Fickell grew and matured as a coach because of the experience in 2011 and is primed to one day lead a program. In many ways, Fickell is “Mr. Buckeye,” having spent 12 of his 14 years as a coach at Ohio State after starring at the school from 1993-96.
Others: Andy Buh, Wisconsin; Bill Miller, Minnesota; Mike Tressel, Michigan State; Ron Vanderlinden, Penn State.

Secondary: Jerry Brown, Northwestern. If Fickell is “Mr. Buckeye,” then Brown is “Mr. Wildcat,” as Brown is in his 20th season in Evanston. He is an expert tactician who always maximizes the talent he has, building some of the most underrated secondaries in the Big Ten. Brown has coached in high school and the NFL, and also was Northwestern’s defensive coordinator from 1999-2001.
Others: Chris Ash, Wisconsin; Harlon Barnett, Michigan State; John Butler, Penn State; Terry Joseph, Nebraska; Curt Mallory, Michigan.

Special teams: Mark Hagen, Indiana. He doesn’t always have the top talent to work with, but Hagen maximizes what he has. And he’s a passionate teacher with an uncanny attention to detail. Mitch Ewald developed into a top kicker last year, while Shane Wynn was one of the Big Ten’s top return men.
Others: Ross Els, Nebraska; Dan Ferrigno, Michigan;; Tim Salem, Illinois; Mike Tressel, Michigan State.

Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland.

Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys' induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group's most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch's illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.
